the faceless crowd continued milling past me. cars zoomed and buses chugged by, leaving nothing but trails of exhaust. it was moments away from rush hour, and from experience, i knew a sea of people was about to descend upon one of the busiest streets in the entire damned country.

The Waiting Game

I stared at your name, beside it was NO REPLY. ‘Yet,’ I added in my head. No reply yet. I’m sure you’ll attend, won’t you?

My wedding is in two weeks. It’s in two weeks, and here I am counting the seconds before my feet stop feeling so cold and I have to sign myself away.

Maybe you haven’t checked your mail, haven’t checked the e-vite, or haven’t logged in on Facebook and haven’t seen the event invite there. Or maybe you have seen and ignored it. But you can’t have, you know it’s RSVP. It means you have to reply if you’re coming or not.

RSVP

Mr. Eugenio Perez, Gene to his friends, Asshole to everyone else, sat quite content at his usual spot on one of the bar’s couches. He was having a pleasant time alone when a woman plopped on the seat across from him and said, “You’re quite the destroyer of dreams, aren’t you.”

She had already placed an order before he could think of anything to say. His usual quick wit was dampened by the 5 Rum Cokes and the woman’s arresting beauty, though he made up for the delay by being curt. “I’m sure your intended audience would have found that dramatic,” he said.

I’m back on my desk, back to work, and back to breathing Metro Manila air so thick that on some days, you can almost touch it. I’ve just come back from a week-long break in the hopes that I’ll be able to leave my stress on a baggage conveyor belt at NAIA Terminal 3. On said trip, I went on a Cebu-Bohol DIY tour with two of my most trusted travel companions, Remi and the Overlord Noreen. (They make for great travel buddies because Remi is cowboy and is willing to try nearly anything at least once, while the Overlord comes prepared with maps, instructions, and other helpful documents should we find ourselves hopelessly lost in the middle of nowhere. Also, both have been on Cebu-Bohol trips before and know at least some of the spots.)
