Yuppie Fangirlism: Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya in screenshots
THE DISAPPEARANCE OF HARUHI SUZUMIYA HAS APPEARED IN SCREENSHOTS! Okay, first let’s calm down while I breathe through a paper bag; at this rate I may have an asthma attack at any second. All right, I’m afraid some of my mental faculties have shut down to make way for girlish fangirl screeching and general swooning so please bear with me.
This morning, I received a comment from fellow fan Jon F (thank you!) pointing me to a YouTube video that purportedly shows screenshots from the Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya movie. I checked it out and found the fatal flaw in my Google-Alert-every-possible-lead plan as I did not make an alert for a major language, Spanish, and therefore missed this very important development. As it turns out, the video Jon F linked me to was a gift that just kept on giving; I figured out that “Ultima parte” means Final part and realized that there were more videos with the “leaked screenshots.” As of this writing, I haven’t been able to check out the site that the videos indicate since I can’t access it, the reason for which can be one of two things: a. the site is region locked; or b. I should change my ISP to one that doesn’t mess up DNS every other day.
Anyway, to compensate for the lack of more info about the said screenshots and its source, here are the things I do know:
1. Somebody very painstakingly took pictures and sewed them up into a video.
2. Somebody took pains in making the video, peppered with stills from the Lantis Promotional Video for the Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya soundtrack.
3. One can assume that if somebody could take pictures of a movie, then somebody could take a video of the said movie. (I know very well that piracy is bad, but considering the speed – or lack thereof – upon which official licensed translations of this stuff get released it’s almost normal for everybody to read/watch the fan translated product and then buy the official one five years later.)
4. Since one can assume that somebody could take a video of the movie, one can assume that somebody is already translating it. Well, one can hope.
5. I thought it was impossible to love Yuki more than I already do, but apparently I was wrong. Ultima Parte proves it.
6. Judging from the screenshots, Kyoto Animation did a great job. So great that I intend to make a shrine in front of their building once I invade Japan.
As far as the dates go, the first screenshot video was apparently made while I wasn’t looking, way back in March 14. Either way, I am adding La Desaparicion de Suzumiya Haruhi to my list of keywords. And so, I embed all eight videos:
Thanks to gekora2 for posting the videos and to Jon F for sharing.
