*UPDATED* Yuppie Fangirlism: Back from hiatus – La Corda D’Oro chapter 63, and chapters 60, 61, 61.5, 62 and 62.5

La Corda d'Oro (Kiniro no Corda)For those who haven’t seen scanlations of chapter 63 of La Corda D’oro (Kiniro no Corda), you shouldn’t read this post. This is my spoiler alert. You have been warned.

Now, back to regular programming.

I found it really painful and irritating to wait for scans of chapters 60, 61, 61.5, 62 and 62.5 to get posted. However, it was exhilarating when I found out 琴音翻译组 and Kaito Zero had already posted scanlations of the said chapters on Mangafox. (Yes, I know I should be more “resourceful” when it comes to La Corda and maybe “befriend” these people so I’d know if some La Corda updates are out. But I’m not like that, and although I get impatient sometimes, I can respect that these translators are also busy with their RLs.)

So, going back. I must admit that chapters 60 to 62.5 showed progress plot-wise.  The chapters showed some progress in the relationships among the main characters. Kaji is such a flirt around Kahoko, which of course, the latter doesn’t notice because she’s supposedly dense at anything love-related. Kaji and Tsuchiura are interacting more (and maybe sizing up each other?). Yunoki’s making his move albeit making it look like he’s just bullying Hino in that rooftop scene. (I must applaud Yunoki though for noticing how Hino’s attitude toward Tsuchiura changed ever since he told Hino he’ll tell her something important after the school festival.) And surprisingly, Shimizu’s actions toward anything related to Hino amazes me. In a good way. Shimizu asking his sempai to dance was just pure cuteness. It kind of got the same “awww” reaction like when he comforted Shouko before one of their performances. He is definitely growing up, and not just physically. I just wonder how he’s going to act once he realizes something about his own feelings for Kahoko and not just his feelings for her music. I guess in these chapters, Hihara takes a backseat in pursuing Hino, while Tsukimori’s departure will definitely stir some emotions.

Character development is good, but I feel like the manga’s stuck at that point where the readers already know who likes who and is just enjoying the fanservice the bishounens are giving by dressing up in Romeo and Juliet costumes and looking disheveled over liking someone (with that someone being Kahoko). So yes, I realize this is a reverse harem manga – something which I love entirely! – but there has to be some major plot progress here somewhere.

And this is where La Corda D’oro chapter 63 comes in. Or more accurately: this is where Tsukimori comes in, with this bishounen having his epiphany I’m sure we’ve all been waiting for him to finally experience. Again, to those who haven’t seen La Corda D’oro chapter 63: spoiler alert. During Tsukimori’s performance in the school festival, we learn that he played Chaconne in G Minor as his first piece and then Schubert’s Ave Maria as his second piece. The second piece he played sort of caused some ruckus among people who know Tsukimori’s personality and talent, so everyone keeps asking him why he played Ave Maria. Of course, the first thing that comes to the readers’ minds (or, to my mind, at least) is that he played it because of Hino. Of course to this awesome violinist, he believes he played the two pieces because they’re contrasting, and he wants to show the audience his skills and the difference between these two pieces in terms of technique and whatnot.

Come on, Tsukimori, you better make up a more believable reason than that. I haven’t read up to chapter 63 for you to just deny what the entire fandom believes.

But that’s ok, because we’re vindicated in the last pages of chapter 63. Tsukimori experiences the epiphany of his lifetime after he plays Ave Maria with Hino. Now, really, Tsukimori, was it that hard to realize THAT?

Again, thanks, Yuki Kure for making me go all fangirly over La Corda D’oro. Till the next chapter.

Note: If you haven’t seen the scanlations for Kiniro no Corda chapters 60 to 62.5, head on to Mangafox.com. Chapter 63 has been translated and I’ve seen the scanlations up a couple of times, but right now (like, today, February 23) Mangafox doesn’t have it. So if you want to see the raw scans, I can point you to the site where I get my La Corda fix. Just leave a message.

*Update* The translations are up! So for those who weren’t able to read it the first time it came out… IT’S UP!!! I sent everyone who asked for the raws the link to the translations. Enjoy!
