Dear Sam

FICTION posted by Rio S.

Dear Sam,

It sure has been a while. Thanks for sending your coffee blend, by the way; Fran says thanks too. We’re still wondering whatever it is you put in there. Honestly, I can safely say we’re quite addicted to Samantha’s Personal Coffee Blend.

How have you been honey? I’ve been busy with work and family stuff the past couple of months and I’m sorry for not writing as often. I know I haven’t called that many times either but I know you’d understand. Fran and I got your package yesterday. I tried to call you, but all I got was that automated voice. In German. Course, I had no idea what it was saying; I just assumed you’d forgotten to charge your phone again. I tried calling many times and still that voice answered, so here I am writing you an email instead.

Mom says to thank you. The curtains you sent to the house were “just darling,” she said. She’s been nagging me to write you more often, but I was really busy you see.

Writing a letter to you now kinda reminds me of the early days. I think Fran called it our “honeymoon phase.” Do you remember, Sammy? We couldn’t bear a moment of being apart – Fran even noted that we couldn’t keep our hands off each other. I thought I’d die the moment you told me you were accepting that job abroad. My girlfriend, the brilliant chemist. Let me tell you, saying that out loud still brings a stupid grin on my face.

Everything’s pretty much okay here, though I’ve been sick a lot these days. Don’t worry, the doctors think it’s just a bad case of intestinal flu or something or other. Can you believe it? They can’t decide what it is I have. Now that I think about it, I couldn’t have talked if I’d reached you. I’ve been a bit hoarse lately and I know you’d laugh and say I sound like a toad. It’s ironic, isn’t it? I finally have time but all I can enjoy is the laptop you sent me and the hospital’s Wi-Fi.

By the way, Sammy, Anne told me she spoke with you recently. I hope she didn’t say anything bad about me. Hahaha. I last saw her while I was out with Fran and May and Roy, you remember May? You’d be surprised she has Roy literally on a leash now.

Anyway, I miss you Sammy. Fran visits me often, so no need to worry; I’m not rotting here getting bored or anything. She’s looking a bit sick lately too, actually, but you know she’s quite the trooper.

Call me, okay? I love you.

Dan

PS. Fran asks where you buy that almond creamer, where else can we find it? Or did you make that, too? Send more, hon, I think she’s taken quite a liking to it.
