I’ve been constantly searching for a way to earn money online since I discovered the Internet. At first, I was logging on to the Internet for school research. Somehow, I stumbled upon information that tells me I can work online. The offer was tempting, all I have to do is to pay a certain fee and then start doing simple typing assignments. I will get paid in dollars and that time, the dollar exchange rate was starting to sky rocket. The best thing is that I get to set my own schedule and I can work full time at home. It’s everyone’s dream to be able to stay at home and work, you don’t have to worry about traffic or getting up early anymore. So I got hooked to the offer, I signed up and logged in to the site.
Things didn’t turned out as intended, I was scammed. I only get paid if I refer someone who signs up with the company, so how does that relate to the typing assignment? Well, I have to type these ads and post them all over the Internet and hope that someone signs up so that I can get paid. Sounds simple but it’s not, imagine if there are hundreds like you posting the same ad in the same site? This means that you are just spamming the site and no one will ever look at it, chances of someone signing up is next to zero.
So I learned my lesson and stayed away from these kind of “jobs” that promises you everything. Still, I didn’t stop my pursuit of finding a way to earn money online. Years went by and I continued my search for online earning opportunities, I found some legit ones but most were scams. I’ve tried everything that I found, paid surveys, PTC (paid to click), PTR (paid to read email), paid to surf, paid to type, etc.
Until one day, I accidentally discovered internet marketing through a Squidoo lens. The lens was actually promoting a paid membership site where I can learn about internet marketing. I did my due diligence by doing background research of the company. They were legit so I signed up for their membership site and started learning. I won’t be mentioning the site anymore since I only stayed as a member for 3 months. That’s because I felt there was something missing in their course and I was doing things part time (I still had a full time job then). Membership fee isn’t exactly cheap so I decided to cancel.
So what exactly is internet marketing? According to Wikipedia, “internet marketing is the marketing of products or services over the Internet.” That’s the most simple definition of internet marketing but there are still many areas that you need to learn to fully understand it. Before you go and dive into an ocean of information on this topic, let me give you one piece of advice, learn only one thing at a time. Why? Because you will mostly suffer from information overload if you try to cram too much information into your brain. Trust me, I’ve been there and sometimes I still suffer from info overload. That’s why I’m ending my article here, I’ll be discussing more about IM as well as give you some tips to get you started.
